Collegiate’s commitment to inclusion and belonging
The heart of Collegiate School is found in the relationships among students, faculty, parents, administrators, and alumni in a learning community shaped by both personal and academic expectations. Our mission calls us to create a diverse and inclusive community of learners and to provide a challenging, supportive educational experience that fosters the intellectual, moral, emotional, and physical development of each student.
Inclusion and belonging are central to that mission. For every student to grow, lead, serve, and develop their full potential, they must feel known, valued, and respected. Belonging is not separate from academic excellence. It is part of the environment that makes excellence possible.
Our commitment to inclusion and belonging grows from these values. We recognize that diversity of thought, background, experience, and perspective strengthens learning and prepares students for life beyond North Mooreland Road. When students encounter different ideas and lived experiences, they learn to think more deeply, listen more carefully, and engage more fully.
What makes each of us different — as lifelong learners, as citizens, as individuals — is energizing. It’s what supercharges interactions, facilitates the exchange of ideas, and stimulates growth — everything a rigorous institution like Collegiate should strive to be. To be inclusive means welcoming those exchanges and making sure everyone feels empowered to engage in those exchanges.
Spaces for Connection and Belonging:
Student Affinity and Ally Groups
Our affinity groups offer students who share particular identities or experiences opportunities to connect, celebrate, and engage in meaningful conversation. Ally groups welcome students who support and advocate for each group’s mission. Guided by faculty advisors, these groups encourage leadership, personal growth, and greater understanding while strengthening connections across the School community.

Parents of Students of Color
PoSoC (Parents of Students of Color) is an affinity group for Collegiate parents who identify as people of color or whose children identify as people of color. The group meets throughout the year to build community, foster meaningful relationships, and provide a space to share experiences and perspectives.
This is a pursuit that requires constant evolution and, as a school, we must always work to progress. |
