The Right Fit: Personalized College Counseling

At Collegiate, our College Counseling program provides thoughtful, individualized guidance that is developmentally appropriate for each stage of Upper School. We partner with families as students explore options and shape a post-secondary path that reflects their interests and values.

Whether through small-group initiatives or one-on-one support that begins in the Sophomore year, students receive guidance from expert counselors who know them personally. With a focus on student-centered self-discovery, personalized strategies, and deep knowledge of and relationships with colleges nationwide and globally, we empower students to confidently navigate the complex college admissions process. Every step of the way, we’re here to help students tell their own story and find the academic, social, and financial fit for their future.

IN 2026 139 Seniors submitted 1,092 applications to 228 colleges, received 760 acceptances to 190 colleges in 42 states, plus the District of Columbia, Canada, England, and Scotland, and enrolled in 59 colleges in 22 states plus the District of Columbia, England, and Scotland.

Brian Leipheimer

Director of College Counseling

After a stint at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Alexandria, VA, Brian joined Collegiate in 2001 working as the college counseling office’s first associate director along with teaching US history and coaching wrestling and soccer, and became the director of college counseling in 2006. Over the years, Brian has counseled nearly 1,000 students, visited hundreds of college campuses, presented at national conferences, and chaired a variety of committees at the school, state, and regional levels.

Erin Breese

Associate Director of College Counseling

Erin has 26 years of experience helping students navigate the college admission process. Before becoming a high school college counselor nearly 13 years ago, Erin worked in college admission for 11 years — four at the University of Vermont and seven at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also nominated students for merit scholarships and honors programs. Erin has reviewed more than 25,000 applications and enjoys using that perspective to guide students as they plan their next steps.

Jenn Earle

College Counseling and Testing Coordinator

Jenn began working at Collegiate in 2015 as the part-time College Counseling Office Assistant. She transitioned to full-time, adding the role of testing coordinator, in the fall of 2019. Before coming to Collegiate, Jenn worked in the legal field, spending one year at the Hanover County Circuit Court and 14 years at the Supreme Court of Virginia. Since the fall of 2015, Jenn estimates that she has submitted school materials to colleges for over 13,000 applications and helped administer nearly 6,700 AP exams!

Adam Ortiz

Adam’s career on the college side includes both small liberal arts recruitment at Washington & Jefferson College and experiencing the realities of highly selective admissions at Johns Hopkins University. Since transitioning to counseling, Adam has guided students at high schools in both the United States and abroad, developing a deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing applicants in a global context. Adam is passionate about helping students expand their horizons and explore the full range of educational pathways available to them.

Miranda Saunders

Associate Director of College Counseling

Miranda has nearly 25 years of experience working on both sides of the college admissions desk, beginning as Assistant Director of Admissions at Vassar College where, in addition to the recruitment and evaluation of applicants, she supervised tour guides and coordinated on-campus programming. Following Vassar, Miranda worked at three independent schools in the metropolitan New York City area. Miranda has also worked as a seasonal reader for NYU and as an essay writing specialist for Oxbridge Academy.

Dona Rehm-Robles

Dona has over a decade of experience working with students and families, both in admissions and as a college counselor. Dona worked in admissions for six years at Lafayette College. While earning her master’s degree in higher education administration from Harvard Graduate School of Education, Dona read applications for the Harvard Kennedy School’s internship program. Prior to Collegiate, Dona was the associate director of college counseling and director of leadership programs at the Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
