At Collegiate, Academic Services is built on the belief that every student benefits from understanding how they learn. Through thoughtful collaboration, personalized support, and a strengths-based approach, our learning specialists partner with students, families, and teachers to ensure each learner is equipped with the tools to thrive.
We meet students where they are, guide them in developing self-awareness, and support them in building effective learning strategies that evolve with their academic journey — from foundational skills in the Lower School to self-directed advocacy in the Upper School. For students with documented learning differences or medical needs, Academic Services coordinates individualized accommodations and testing support.
Lower School
In the Lower School, our learning specialists nurture the development of early academic skills, working closely with teachers and families to support young learners. Instruction is tailored to help students build confidence, address challenges proactively, and develop a positive attitude toward learning from the start.

Middle School
As students grow more independent, Middle School Academic Services focuses on helping them explore how they learn best. Learning specialists collaborate with teachers and families, support students directly in and out of the classroom, and emphasize the development of individualized strategies and self-advocacy — skills that are critical in adolescence and beyond.

| Learning specialists work directly with students in classrooms and in small groups to develop self-advocacy skills and apply learning strategies across the curriculums. |
| Identifying Needs and Partnering with Families |
| Students who may need support are identified through an ongoing screening process. Our department continually seeks to partner with families to brainstorm ideas and coordinate efforts; additionally, learning specialists collaborate with classroom teachers to deepen our collective understanding of students’ strengths and challenges and to provide resources. |

| When needed, learning specialists connect with the guidance counselor and outside professionals to better understand and personalize support for students. |

Our goal throughout Middle School is for each learner to gain an awareness of their individual learning profiles, establish strategies to address academic demands, and self-advocate to effectively communicate with others.
Teachers as Learners
Collegiate's commitment to supporting faculty as lifelong learners is noteworthy. In the Middle School, learning specialists balance their professional development choices to expand their knowledge of research-based methods to support students with learning differences and to expand their understanding of best classroom practices for all learners.

Upper School
In the Upper School, students work one-on-one with learning specialists to refine their academic strategies and become effective self-advocates. Using evidence based practices, academic services emphasizes executive functioning, time management, and study skills.

Learning specialists partner with students, teachers, counselors, and families to develop strategies that align with classroom goals and support each student’s learning profile. As students prepare for college, specialists work closely with College Counseling to guide families through the accommodation process and ensure a confident transition to life beyond Collegiate.
